We’re always thinking regionally

The 35 named roadway projects in the Regional Transportation Authority plan are located throughout the metro area, but they have a shared characteristic. The projects have regional significance because they provide access to multiple communities in Pima County. RTA improvements help us get to regional destinations with improved safety, reduced congestion and more travel choices.

Major arterial roads accommodate large traffic volumes and provide connectivity to minor arterials and neighborhood streets. Typically, the jurisdictions are responsible for improvements to and maintenance of minor roads and neighborhood streets. The RTA’s multimodal corridor projects have been completed in every corner of the region, along with safety, transit, environmental and economic vitality improvements.

Prior to voters approving the RTA plan in 2006, at least four non-RTA transportation initiatives failed. Voters only signed on when the eight local jurisdictions in Pima County came together with the state to stand behind a set of publicly vetted regional transportation projects that benefit everyone.
