City of Tucson to begin five more pavement rehabilitation projects in 2027

The City of Tucson is moving forward with several Pavement Rehabilitation projects as part of the 2026 RTA plan. Work began on Irvington Road, Kolb Road to Houghton Road in August. The project will be completed in January 2027.

Also getting underway in 2027 are:

  • Alvernon Road, Julian Wash to Valencia;
  • Irvington Road; Kolb Road, Valencia Road to Interstate 10;
  • Silverbell Road, Grant Road to St Mary’s;
  • Wrightstown/Harrison roads, Pantano to Speedway
  • Swan Road, Rillito River to Speedway.

The first phase of Irvington (Sierra to Pantano), will be completed in October. At that same time milling, the tearing up of old pavement, will begin on Phase Two (Pantano to Kolb). Though a shorter length of roadway, the second phase will take approximately three months due to the need to excavate and rebuild a large portion of the base under the new pavement. The project is due to be completed in early January.

The other five are due to be started in the first half of 2027 with Silverbell, Swan and Alvernon the first three projects to get started.

These are all roadway rehabilitation projects, which were approved by voters as part of the March 2026 RTA plan. These funds may only be used to completely rebuild the roadway, though on some projects the City of Tucson may be adding additional amenities using different funds.
